I recently found this little fellow in my house; he possibly came in with a load of wood for the fire. This is a mantispid and in many ways it looks like a praying mantis. But you have to go back nearly 300 million years to find the common ancestor of the praying mantis and mantispid. So the distinct triangular head and the pair of grasping front legs evolved separately in these species - a wonderful example of convergent evolution.
